Today, I have another media based post for y’all. It’s the Marvel Cinematic Universe Tag, in which I get to ramble and rant over my favourite (and least-favourite) things about the MCU! Big thanks to Kenechi for tagging me to partake in this fun tag.
I have been a Marvel fan ever since I was an early tween (I used to have my wall covered in Marvel posters :)). The movies have really been an inspiration to me – which, I admit, sounds so corny. Believe it or not, Marvel is the reason why I started writing seriously. Although my writing style and such has progressed quite a bit over the years, it all started when I watched The Winter Soldier for the first time and decided I wanted to be able to create my very own stories and characters. So, I wrote an action-packed novel about a superhero named Muscle Man…. He was a rip-off of Captain America. The book was horrible, but somehow, I kept on writing and I managed to keep it up until today. 😂
So, yeah, as you can probably tell, Marvel’s movies and characters have played a pretty big part in my life as a word-crafter. I guess it was the movies that really got me super enthralled with storytelling and character-building. Although my obsession has calmed down and is a lot less cringey than it was in my tween years, I’m still a proud fan of the MCU. So, without further ado, let’s get into this tag! Buckle up for an overload of Marvel quotes and pictures.
SPOILER ALERT. There most likely will be spoilers ahead, especially for Endgame and The Winter Soldier. You have been warned.
#1 How were you introduced into the MCU fandom?
Ah, I remember this! My siblings and I were gift-hunting to find something to get our dad for his upcoming birthday. We wondered about getting him a movie and were soon binging film trailers across YouTube. We’d come across Marvel movies and they looked SO cool that we soon eagerly bought Dad The First Avenger. To be honest, we were wayyy more stoked to watch it than our dad was, but he loved it too. 😂 Captain America instantly became my favourite superhero and I was super pumped to watch all the other MCU films.
#2 What’s your favourite Marvel film?
The Winter Soldier! It’s most definitely the best MCU film ever made – wonderful characters and character development, tension is spot on, epic score, well done action, fantastic storytelling, amazing cinematography… should I go on?
Closely following The Winter Soldier comes Civil War… and then Infinity War.
#3 Top favourite Marvel character?
Ooh, I have several favourites. Ur… here, I’ll just list my top five:
Captain America, aka Steve Rogers. (Was this really a surprise to anyone?)
The Winter Soldier, aka Bucky Barnes. Buck ‘n’ Steve literally have my favourite fictional friendship. Heh.
Black Widow, aka Natasha Romanoff. My very favourite female character! I am so looking forward to her movie coming out in November.
Star lord, aka Peter Quill. A lot of peeps seem to think it’s surprising that Peter is one of my favourites, but I don’t really know why. 😂 Anyways, I think he’s a really cool ‘n’ funny dude, with very great music tastes. But he’s actually been through QUITE a lot; he really needs a break.
Scarlet Witch, aka Wanda Maximoff. Poor kid. She’s been through a lot too and she also needs a break. I can’t help but love her character – she’s so powerful yet so insecure.
#4 If you were transported into the MCU and had to trade places with one of the superheroes, who would you choose?
Hmm, this took a lot of time to decide on. Like, a lot of the heroes have all lost the people/things they love the most in life; it’s not like being a superhero means your life is a bed of roses (and a lot of my top favourite characters are probably the most depressed. oops). Also, I’d rather not trade places with a super powerful superhero, as power can really destroy anybody. So, I’m going with Falcon (aka Sam Wilson). Sam doesn’t actually have a super power and he’s more of a sidekick. But, he’s still an important character, a great dude and a really caring person. He always tries to do the right thing and is forever willing to help his friends.
#7 What are some of your favourite quotes from the films?
I. Have. Many.
“I’m with you till the end of the line.” …And that, ladies and gents, is true friendship right there.
“I don’t judge people on their worst mistakes.”
“I keep telling everybody they should move on. Some do. But not us.”
“I love you 3000.”
“Because I’m one of the idiots who lives in it!”
“You can’t be a friendly neighbourhood Spider-man if there’s no neighbourhood.”
“There’s only one God, ma’am, and I’m pretty sure he doesn’t dress like that.”
“If we can’t protect the world, you can be sure we’ll avenge it.”
“I’d rather be a good man than a great king.”
“I can do this all day.”
“He may have been your father, boy, but he wasn’t your daddy.”
“I promise you, if you need us, if you need me, I’ll be there.” there are far more, but I think that’s enough for today…
#6 Which crew would you want to be part of the most: Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, or Revengers?
Hmm, although I’d love to hang out with some of my favourite superheroes at the Avengers’ base, I think I’d find their team kinda overwhelming to be on and I don’t really think I’d belong there. Also, not all of the heroes can really seem to get along with each other and I’m not sure how well I, myself, would be able to work alongside characters with such annoyingly big egos (YES, MR. STARK, I’M TALKING ABOUT YOU). As for the Revengers, although they’re hilarious, none of them seem to really have any sense. So, I think I’d go with the Guardians! They’re more like a family than a team too. Even though they’ll have their arguments, it truly is clear that they each care for each other, so I’d love that.
#7 Favourite and least-favourite ship?
So, for my favourite, I actually really shipped Natasha (Black Widow) and Clint (Hawkeye). I thought their chemisty would work really well together as a couple and they were already great friends. But, well, then we found out Clint was married to Laura sooo….
I also liked Steve (Captain America) and Peggy Carter a lot. OH, ALSO, PETER PARKER AND MJ TOO. 🖤
Eheh, as for my least-favourite ship, it is definitely Steve and Sharon Carter (Agent 13). What even was that?! Their relationship was incredibly forced, rushed and awkward. They just didn’t work with each other! Plus, I really, really didn’t like Sharon’s character. And anyways, Steve wasn’t even over losing Peggy yet. I also wanna know what happened to Sharon in Endgame; did Steve just dump her to marry her aunt or what? 🤔 Yeahhh, that ship was just weird.
#8 Favourite and least-favourite villain?
Thinking of a favourite villain was tough. Sure, I love The Winter Soldier, but for the majority of the MCU he wasn’t even a villain. So, Thanos may be my favourite – although I absolutely hated his guts, his character did actually makes sense. He wasn’t the type of villain who was evil just for the sake of it; he believed he was destroying half the universe for the greater good. Thanos believed he was the hero. So, his story was incredibly well-written and that’s why he’s one of my favourites. I also LOVE Killmonger! Like, I preferred him over Black Panther, to be honest. He very well could be my favourite too – I’m indecisive.
I also love Loki, but he’s honestly not my favourite. He’s actually pretty helpless at times, but he’s funny so Marvel uses that to make up for it.
My least-favourite villain is very likely Malekith. C’mon, he was a fairly bad villain. He was one of those villains who just seemed to be evil for the sake of being evil. He didn’t seem to have much attached to his character.
#9 Unpopular MCU opinion?
Okay, here’s just a few:
- Infinity War was better than Endgame. Far better.
- Marvel destroyed Thor’s character. It just decreased throughout the whole universe. I absolutely loved the first Thor film, but, especially since Ragnarok, he was just turned into comic relief. And Fat Thor wasn’t funny. Marvel literally ruined Thor, the person who once used to be one of my favourite heroes.
- Captain America’s character arc was unrealistically out of character. Listen, I loved the fact that he got Peggy back again, but his move was still super selfish to both Bucky and Sam. Steve would never have abandoned his friends! Especially Bucky; whatever happened to ‘I’m with you till the end of the line’?
#10 What’s your favourite Stan Lee cameo scene?
How could I even decide? Honestly, I can’t. I love them all. So, to make your day, here’s a snippet from nearly every Stan Lee cameo (I haven’t even seen all of them. (oh, and ignore the fact that the image is obviously screenshotted from Instagram)). Stan Lee was an utter legend. Excelsior! 🖤
Well, that concludes my Marvel rambles for today. I don’t really know who to nominate to do this, apart from people who already have. So, I’m just going to nominate whoever has watched all three Captain America movies (one fantastic trilogy). Anyways, free feel to discuss your Marvel opinions in the comments, because I’d love to hear them. Like, what are your thoughts on Thor’s character? Was Captain America selfish, or am I wrong? Oh, and should Steve have given his shield to Bucky or Sam? Chat with me about whatever in the comments.
